Welcome to Feast and Fable! I’m Mackenzie, Lauren Mackenzie actually, but no one calls me Lauren and everyone calls me Mack. How’s that for confusing? I recently learned from a Scottish vintner deep in the valley of the Russian River that my name means “comely” and “springing from fire” - two very contradictory, yet seemingly pleasant visuals that I’ll now leave you with.
Nomenclature aside, I am a writer, photographer and food believer based in Nashville, Tennessee. I say “based in”, because I travel every chance I get, usually alongside my beloved husband in our adorable Teardrop Camper.
Whether I’m deep in the forest or at home in the South, you’ll find me foraging, reading, cooking and preparing meals for the ones I love. I’m nothing if not curious, and it’s this curiosity that fuels my pursuit of intentional living.
This blog is devoted to exploring food as nourishment, for the body and soul, and how it finds its ways into all our best stories. It’s about setting the table, pouring the good wine and learning from it all.
My hope is that the recipes and ramblings of these pages create an inspired gathering place where together we can be human - where we can celebrate the art of the feast and the lessons of the fable. I find great joy in my connection with food and it's this joy that I hope is contagious.
Now, let’s go make something delicious!
"If time, so fleeting, must like humans die, let it be filled with good food and good talk, and then embalmed in the perfumes of conviviality.” - M. F. K. Fisher
